Next Ride is Wednesday, February 17 Starting at 4:30 p.m.
MONTEREY, Calif., (January 15, 2010) – The success of the Twilight Bicycle Rides in 2009 inspired Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to add to the Twilight Ride schedule for 2010. There are 12 rides scheduled and the kick-off will be on Wednesday, January 20 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the paddock. This is an hour earlier to allow for the earlier, winter sunset. Light & Motion (cycling lights) will be joining the Twilight Ride to assist the cyclists with a full line of demo lights.
The Twilight Rides are informal and the 2.238 mile track will be open to all levels of cyclists, including children, throughout the entire ride. The cost is $10 per rider and a portion of the proceeds is donated to charity.
If threatening weather cancels the January 20 Twilight Ride, it will be rescheduled for Wednesday January 27th at 4:30 p.m. A media alert will be sent out by 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday the 20th if the weather is inclement. Cyclist may call the main office at (831) 242-8201 for further information.
The 2010 schedule includes rides on January 20, February 17, March 17, April 14 (pre-Sea Otter Classic), May 19 (with American Le Mans), June 16, July 21 (with MotoGP), August 11 (with the Historics), September 15, October 20, November 17 and December 15.
Since the “Twilights” inception last year, over 1,000 cyclists have came out to pedal, climb, and descend the same 11 turn layout with a 300 foot elevation change that has played host to so many motor sport events in the past.
Light & Motion has been pioneering state-of-the-art portable lighting systems for 20 years. In 2008 they launched a line of LED bicycle lights, the lightest, brightest and most reliable lights available worldwide, which are designed and built right here on the Monterey Peninsula.
