Velo Club Monterey Cycling Kit for 2016 is available to order now through April 30th. Designs will remain the same as the past few years and Champion Systems continues as our supplier. You will place and pay for your order directly from CS and then all orders will be shipped free to the club to distribute to you. Note that they have changed their ordering system from previous years (making it less intuitive in our opinion) so we have some hints below to help you navigate the clothing options.
Graphics will be the same as the last few years. If you are interested in purchasing VCM clothing, please contact the clothing coordinator Robin at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible and let her know how many pieces you might be interested in purchasing this year. This is not a firm commitment yet, we are only trying to estimate the level of interest as there is a minimum of ten pieces needed to place an order.
As in the recent past, we will be using the Champion Systems CS Direct system for ordering. Once we know that we will have at least ten pieces to order, a Velo Club Monterey “shop” will be set up during the month of April and directions for placing your order will be sent out to all VCM members and others who might be interested in purchasing clothing.
Additionally, for those unfamiliar with the fit of Champion System clothing, we have received a “fit kit” from CS that includes the following pieces:
Men’s Club Cut Short Sleeve Jersey
Men’s Race Cut Short Sleeve Jersey
Women’s Short Sleeve Jersey
Men’s Bib Shorts
Women’s Bib Shorts
We only have it for a very short time so if you’d like to try on samples before you order we’ll have these pieces available to try on the following dates/places:
Doing your own bike maintenance can save you money, but buying all the tools you need gets expensive – especially those $50+ specialized tools that you only need once every 3 years.
Velo Club Monterey can help as we have an extensive set of bike tools that any current member can borrow.
Whether it’s headset tools, bottom bracket or freewheel removers, cone or pedal wrenches, cable cutters, a wheel truing stand, or just about any type of bike maintenance tool – we’ve probably got what you need to keep your ride running smooth. The Repair Help section of the Park Tools website is an excellent resource to help determine what tools you might need for a specific repair
Jan the Velo Club Answer Man is the Keeper of Tools. To find out if we have a specific tool, or you are a Velo Club member who wants to borrow one, send an email to Jan at email@example.com
Hazard in a bike lane? Dangerous pothole? Broken grate? If it’s time to fix a hole in the middle of your road, the Transportation Agency for Monterey County makes it easy to report a roadway problem for cyclists. Access the TAMC Bike Service Request Form here to report a roadway problem to the county and they’ll send the report to the appropriate agency.
You may not know it, but Velo Club Monterey sponsors the local Junior Development Cycling Team which has been run by club member Gordon Martine for several years. The Junior Development Team has made great strides as they begin 2016. There are 7 juniors currently in the program. These young athletes (ages 13 – 16) include: Christina, Elijah, Louisa, Hanna, Sage , Ryan and Matthew.
