Unfortunately we’re going to miss out on Sea Otter altogether in 2020. Below is the notice from the folks at Sea Otter.
Hopefully 2021 will be more accommodating to our need for the cycling tribe to gather. Stay well!

Congratulations to the Seniors on the Monterey Junior Cycling Development Team. Well done!
Velo Club Monterey hopes you are continuing to enjoy your solo rides. We’ve enjoyed beautiful weather and amazing wildflower displays this Spring and we’ve seen lots of people out on their bikes.
Unfortunately to stay safe under the Covid-19 threat and abide by the current restrictions on large gatherings, this year’s Memorial Day Pie Ride to Gizdich Ranch is cancelled. Not only would it be unsafe to organize a group ride of 30-40 people, but Gizdich Ranch’s Bakery is currently only open for pickup orders.
We look forward to a Pie Ride with you at a later date.
Anyone who has been out riding or hiking the past few weeks has seen first hand what a gorgeous Spring we are having in regards to the wildflower display. Here’s a few from Edmund taken at Ft. Ord.
If you’ve got some photos to share email them to us here and we’ll try to post them here and on the Velo Club Facebook page.
UPDATE 2: The updated Monterey County Shelter in Place order continues to allow us “To engage in outdoor recreation activity, including, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, bicycling, and running, in compliance with Social Distancing Requirements…”
Note that large sections of the Rec Trail are currently closed except to commuters. Please be a good neighbor and abide by these restrictions.
UPDATE: Obviously under the current Shelter-in-Place and social distancing restrictions, there are no group rides. Be safe and keep everyone else safe by not riding with a group.

The social aspects of group riding are one of the main motivations for cycling. As we are now living under the threat of the community spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19), the club would like to urge you to help minimize the risk and protect yourselves and your fellow riders.
To that end:
Most of us learned to love cycling by riding on our own. Now might be a good time to revisit the joy and freedom of riding solo.
Be safe, be well.
